Representatives from EDF came to our 18th January 2006, 7.30pm Parish Council Meeting, to explain why we have been having problems in Redbourn. The explanation was that equipment is wearing out and that a line refurbishment program will be put in place this spring. 300 poles and 30km of line are to be replaced over a period of 3 to 4 months. There will be some planned power cuts due to this work. Further details are in Redbourn Parish Council Newsletter Issue 12 Winter 2007
EDF have placed a statement on this website and have phoned some village members to explain the situation

We won Hertfordshire
Village Of The Year 2002 -
Western Region and Overall Winner. The Competition is organised by CPRE - The Hertfordshire Society and is sponsored by Calor Gas and the County Council. Redbourn had the honour of representing the county in the Calor Village of the year of England and Wales. We competed against villages from Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire in the regional round, trying to reach the short list of six villages and the chance of the £6,000 first prize. We were Region Winner in the Older People category.
We are very pleased to have won this award as it is a recognition of all the hours of voluntary work that many people willingly give to Redbourn to make it such a wonderful place in which to live.
The Judges were in Redbourn for the 2003 competition and we were a section winner. Once again we were Western area winner in 2004. In 2005 we were winners in 2 sections, Community project and IT The Judges comments were: -
"The Best Community Project Award has been won by a village that has won many awards but still keeps coming up with ideas for continuous improvement, including a Disabled Access Footpath Scheme. Best Community Project: REDBOURN". (This was for the path on the Common to give a circular walk)
"The IT Winner represents Hertfordshire in both the Regional and National Compeititions. Recent nominees, Braughing and Brookmans park, have both won the Regional Competition. In looking for an outstanding county winner to go forward as our representative, one thing which impressed was the deletion of out-of-date forthcoming events, combined with up-to-the minute reporting of current activities. A prime example of this came from our winner. A report of the Village of the Year judging visit, complete with photo, was published on the very day. IT Winner: REDBOURN"
We were please to win the Eastern England IT section in
2005 and the Hertfordshire IT Award in 2006, commended for IT in 2007.
In 2007 we were also commended in the environment category and won the Older People Category
