The Red House

redhouse1.jpg

This was once the site of the Greyhound Inn, (See Bygone Public Houses Of Redbourn). The Red House was built in 1836 for Rebecca Goulds and used later by Lady Charlotte Glamis. There is an old well in the cellar. William Alexander Pope lived here before he moved to the new vicarage at Church End. (He was Vicar of St Marys Church from 1877 to 1897.)

Building company William Verry Ltd has bought the Red House and said to be using it as part of their expansion plans.

The company, which does work for the private and public sector including Herts County Council, has its HQ in London but its marketing, contracts management and surveying arms will be moving. William Verry Ltd specialises in schools and has already built two in the Watford area for the county council.

The Red House was previously offices for Currie And Brown
