Moon Watch project and Einstein Year

The Moon Watch project is ongoing.

Look at the cresent new moon using the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope and then submit your results to The Crescent moon watch page . (SAFETY if you are going to use binoculars or a telescope, you MUST make sure the Sun has set.)

Details needed:

1 Your observation and location (eg postcode)

2 Date and time of your observation

3 What the crescent looked like (the site will give some simple descriptions)

4 Where the crescent was in the sky relative to where the sun set (eg left, right, above, below)

5 The weather conditions and you, the observer

Even if the weather is clear and you cannot see the Moon, let us know. A negative observation will help us.

In addition to helping Muslims set the date for Ramadan each year, the project will also help other religions - including the Christian, Jewish and Hindu faiths - that base important festivals on the lunar calendar.
