288 pages of information comprehensively illustrated with photographs, maps and drawings.
The first few chapters deal with the early history of the area from Stone-Age times to the formation of the village in Saxon and Norman days. The Doomsday Book is used to project a vision of Redboum at the beginning of the Medieval period. The histories of the Medieval Village, Church and Priory are detailed. Post Medieval Redbourn is described in later chapters about the People, their Homes and Occupations with histories of the
St Marys Church, the Chapels and the Schools, all brought up to date.
The author has lived in the village for nearly 50 years and has studied and recorded its history for most of this time. He has given many talks and put on exhibitions on various aspects of
Redbourn Village and church history.
Upon his retirement from the aircraft industry in 1988 he gave a series of evening classes on the History of Redboum. Since the inception of
Redbourn Museum. He has been its Curator and is also Official Archivist of
St Marys Church records.
The book is a soft-back (A5 size); with a gloss laminated cover showing an old photograph of the village in colour. The pages are thread-sewn and the covers are drawn on for durability. A Bibliography and Index are added for the use of serious readers
