Proposed Luton Airport Expansion

Current proposals to expand Luton Airport will affect Redbourn Residents.

Various campaign groups have set up an online petition against the planned significant increase in night flights at Luton - doubling between 10pm and midnight, plus starting at 5am - and we need as many people as possible to sign it. SEE http://www.change.org/luton-night-flights for details and the petition. (As at March 2013)

Both the owners of Luton Airport (Luton Borough Council – as London Luton Airport Ltd) and the operators (Albertis – as London Luton Airport Operations Ltd) are proposing to submit planning applications to expand the capacity of Luton Airport.

They aim to increase capacity from between 8-10million passengers per year to between 15-18million per year. Potentially increasing the number of flights by at least 50% and using bigger and potentially nosier planes to carry the extra passengers.

The 2 proposals are very similar and are likely to be submitted to Luton Borough Council's Planning Department within the next month

1. Luton Borough Council's proposal as the owners – their initial consultation period has now closed prior to the submission of the plans, however there will be a further period of consultation following the application

2. The Operators proposal – the initial consultation process is still open. You have until Wednesday 25th April to respond to the proposal

Any large scale expansion of Luton Airport will have a detrimental impact on Redbourn. There will be a significant rise in noise and pollution levels and the road and rail network will become overloaded. The Environmental Impact Assessment is yet to be completed but the local environment is bound suffer.

Please make sure you have your say!
